Karelia is building up its power: almost 16 billion rubles were invested in the mining complex in 2024
New factories, piers and quarries. How the republic is turning granite and marble into its growth points.
The Republic of Karelia demonstrates record rates of investment in the mining and industrial complex. In 2024, investments in fixed assets for extraction of minerals and production of other non-metallic mineral products amounted to 15.9 billion rubles or 20.7% of the total investment of large and medium-sized organizations and increased by 2.7 billion rubles compared to 2023 or by 7.6% in comparable prices.
According to the results of 2024, the total share of the enterprises in the field of mineral extraction in the total volume of shipped industrial goods in monetary terms amounted to 40%.
The major projects which are changing the industry are:
– The company “Karelprirodresurs” launched its fifth crushed stone production plant in the Lakhdenpokhsky district (2.9 billion rubles of investments, equipment from China).
– OOO “Tsementum”: in June this year, a plant was launched at the Shokshinskoye quartzite sandstone deposit (1 billion rubles, capacity of 1 million tons of crushed stone).
– OOO “Karelkamen”: is building a cargo pier on Lake Onego (317 million rubles) for product logistics.
– OOO “Bioen Nedra”: built a plant at the Sitozerskoye deposit; launched a block mining and sawing workshop in the Kondopozhsky district and is creating a stone processing workshop in the village of Shalsky (more than 500 million rubles, 33 jobs).
– AO “InterKamen”: invested 155 million rubles in the infrastructure repairs and equipment in 2024, and is preparing to develop a deposit in Suoyarvi.
– AO “Prionezhskaya Gornaya Kompaniya”: resumes marble mining in the Pryazhinsky district for tile production.
– OOO “Tsvetnye Granity”: launched high-tech production in Petrozavodsk in 2024 (160 million rubles, 24 jobs). Plans a logistics complex, investments will amount to almost 35 million rubles.
– These projects are not just numbers. They mean new jobs, modern technologies and confidence that Karelian stone will remain in demand in construction and architecture throughout Russia.
